After a recent Arch upgrade, I started getting some unstable behavior from the Xorg Intel video driver. Turning-off the laptop screen (when the lid was closed) would hang the box (no way to chvt), and intermittently I would get the same hang when suspending, either docked or undocked. Some folks reported similar issues on the Arch wiki, but the addition of i915.powersave=0 to the kernel parameters seems to have done the trick (thanks to this post).
