Getting SANE working under Ubuntu Dapper/Edgy/Feisty with the Canon LIDE 20
Published 2010-06-22
Dapper/Edgy/Feisty includes SANE backend version 1.0.17 or later, which causes my LIDE 20 to lock-up (grinding noise during calibration). Turning off calibration restores some functionality, but then the scan is terrible.
Downgrade to backends version 1.0.15 (as used in Breezy) and full functionality is restored. I use stow and installed the libsane v 1.0.15 in /usr/local/stow.
As of Ubuntu karmic, you don't need to play this game anymore. The sane libraries just work with the scanner.
